Getting Started
Do I need a referral?
No, you do not need a referral to access counselling or psychotherapy services. You can contact us directly to book an appointment. Referrals from GPs, schools, workplaces and other health professionals are also welcome.
How do I book an appointment?
You can book an appointment by contacting our practice via phone, email or through the contact form on our website. We will help connect you with the clinician best suited to your needs.
What happens in the first session?
Your first session is an opportunity for you and your clinician to get to know each other. We will discuss your concerns, goals, personal history and what you hope to achieve through therapy. Together, we will develop a plan tailored to your individual needs.
How long are sessions?
Most counselling and psychotherapy sessions run for approximately 50–60 minutes. Extended sessions may be available where clinically appropriate.
Are appointments available online?
Yes. We offer secure telehealth appointments, allowing clients to access support from the comfort of their own home or another private location.
Counselling & Psychotherapy
What issues can counselling help with?
Counselling and psychotherapy can support individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, grief and loss, relationship difficulties, life transitions, workplace challenges, self-esteem concerns and a range of other emotional or psychological difficulties.
What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?
Counselling often focuses on current challenges, practical strategies and achieving specific goals. Psychotherapy explores deeper emotional patterns, past experiences and underlying issues that may be impacting your wellbeing. Both approaches aim to support personal growth and positive change.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies depending on your individual circumstances, goals and the nature of the concerns being addressed. Some people benefit from a small number of sessions, while others choose longer-term support.
Are sessions confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is a fundamental part of the therapeutic relationship. Information shared during sessions remains private, except in circumstances where there is a legal or ethical obligation to disclose information, such as concerns about safety.
How do I know if a therapist is the right fit for me?
A strong therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors in successful therapy. We encourage clients to ask questions and discuss their needs openly. If appropriate, we can assist in matching you with a clinician whose experience and approach align with your goals.
Therapy Approaches
What is EMDR therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based psychotherapy approach that helps individuals process and recover from distressing or traumatic experiences. It is widely used in the treatment of trauma and PTSD and can also be helpful for a range of other concerns.
Can EMDR help with anxiety, depression and trauma?
Yes. EMDR has been shown to be effective in treating trauma and PTSD and may also help with anxiety, depression, grief, phobias, low self-esteem and other difficulties that may be linked to distressing life experiences.
What therapeutic approaches do you use?
Our clinicians draw from a range of evidence-based approaches, including EMDR, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), person-centred therapy, trauma-informed practice, attachment-based approaches and other modalities tailored to the individual needs of each client.
Is EMDR right for everyone?
EMDR can be highly effective for many people; however, it may not be the most appropriate approach for every situation. Your clinician will assess your needs and discuss whether EMDR or another therapeutic approach is best suited to your circumstances.
